Murk Estate at night

Accommodation

Rooms on the mountain

Murk Estate sits high on a ridge above Dehiowita, reached by a mountain track and not much else. There are three places to sleep — a king room facing the mountains, a queen room opening onto the garden, and a dormitory for groups — taking eight to ten guests in all. Every room has a real bed, proper linen and hot water. What it does not have is a lobby, a lift or a concierge. This is an outstanding luxury glamping experience, not a hotel: the comfort is real, and so is the mountain it is built on.

Rooms

Three ways to stay

The Mountain View Room

The Mountain View Room

Wake to the hills coming out of the mist. Tall shuttered windows open onto the valley, and on a clear morning the light arrives pink before the sun does.

  • King size bed
  • Attached bathroom
  • Mountain and valley views
  • Sleeps 2
The Garden Room

The Garden Room

A quieter corner of the estate, opening straight onto the garden. Soft light, birdsong from first thing, and a few steps to the pool and the fire pit.

  • Queen size bed
  • Attached bathroom
  • Direct garden access
  • Sleeps 2
The Dormitory

The Dormitory

Built for groups travelling together — friends, families, climbers heading up early. Simple, comfortable and companionable, with the same view everyone else gets.

  • Sleeps up to 6
  • Shared bathroom
  • Best for groups
  • Bring your own quiet

Getting here

The road is the first part

This is the track up to the estate, filmed on the way. In the wet the stream runs across the rock and the last stretch turns to running water. A car, a van or a tuk-tuk will not make it, and we cannot tow one that tries.

Come in a genuine high-clearance 4x4, walk up from the bottom in daylight, or book our transfer at LKR 7,500 per vehicle for up to 4 guests. Decide before you book, not at the turn-off.
